I am a wife, mother, grandmother. I share my home with my husband, three dogs and nine chickens. We live in a suburban area, luckily with 1/3 acre that makes it feel semi-rural. We live in a basic, older 1957 Ranch style home which is undergoing a major remodel (we are adding nearly 1400 sq feet!).
I am striving to live a more simple life, embracing imperfection, and making do or doing without. Within this blog I am hoping to provide information on gardening, preserving/canning, real food cooking, crafting, and doing it: Simply Basic, Frugal, and most importantly- fun.
This is my job, the job I have always loved. I am a homemaker at heart. My greatest pleasure is working from home caring for my family and helping to run the family business.
Getting back to a simple life is my biggest dream and see it more as a journey and not an ending point. I will make mistakes along the way. I hope I am able to learn from them, make changes and continue the journey. I am so blessed to be able to grow most of our own vegetables, fruit, and flowers in our backyard here in the beautiful Pacific NW. I strive to be a good steward of this world and have found that it usually coincides with frugality: like using vinegar and baking soda to clean costs a lot less than chemical cleaners. In this quest I’ve discovered that you can make many household items (anything from deoderant, ‘green’ household cleaners to mayonnaise and ketchup!) easily and cheaply with a focus on a healthier home and body as the added bonus to all of this.
Today’s lives are so far from slow, basic, and simple that it may seem like an impossible quest. I am relearning everyday and it is my desire to try to share a piece of my journey. Much of what I do I don’t even think about any more and I will be attempting to share it with you. If you are here to follow my journey, welcome! I hope you look around and let me know what you like and what you’d like to see.
